Poetry Essay Writing

In a 3-4 page essay (750-1,000 words) develop your topic on what makes a type of writing poetry rather than prose, choosing one of the poems we read in class. You can begin with your analysis of one of the shorter poems (“Disillusionment at 10 O’Clock,” “The Lamb,” “Dolor,” or the sonnets), or use more than one. You can also choose several verses or a section of the longer Coleridge poem, “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.” Demonstrate your understanding of what makes up a poem, defining its attributes, and providing examples to support your ideas from the poem itself.
