PROJECT3: Critical Annotated Bibliography
Project 3 is the research portion of your research project and Project 4 is the essay portion. Please see our Page Section for examples of these two projects.
For this assignment, you will write a critical annotated bibliography consisting of eight scholarly sources and their corresponding annotations. You will also write a two-page introduction in which you explain your search strategy and your plan for using your sources to write your researched argument essay.
Proposal Defined: A proposal is a plan of action, so your proposal must explain your topic, your purpose and your intended audience. It must also include your research and organizational strategies. It must be written in prose in the same way you would write any academic paper. First person point of view aIa and amya is acceptable here.
Annotated Bibliography Defined: An annotated bibliography is a list of source citations, each followed by a brief annotation a a paragraph summarizing the content of the source and another paragraph explaining why that source is reliable and what you plan to do with that source. Each entry must consist of the citation plus two paragraphs.

Your Purpose: To conduct necessary research and planning in preparation for writing a research-based argument essay.
Your Research Question/Thesis: The annotated bibliography is centered on a research question based on the topic you have chosen. The answer to this research question will evolve into your claim and will be the foundation of your researched argument essay
The Proposal: A one to two page introduction to your bibliography which describes the specific topic of your research and the research question that you wanted to answer. It will also describe your research plan–how you got your sources, how you plan to use them and how you might structure your final paper in project 4.
Your Sources: You must have 8 to 10 academic quality sources (no Wikipedia or Cracked.com for example). At least one of your sources must be from a scholarly and preferably from a peer-reviewed journal. All sources must be current. At least one source should be from 2014 and all sources must be from the last five years.
Your Audience: A university group whose members are neutral and uninformed about the topic.
Your Title: The title of this project should be: Proposal and Annotated Bibliography: Your Topic
Citations: The source citations should be formatted according to MLA guidelines.
Required Length: One to two-page Proposal more than two pages will lower your grade, eight sources, and their annotations. The length of each annotation will vary depending on the source itself, but each should consist of one substantial summary paragraph (100-200 words) and one evaluation paragraph (a few sentences should suffice).
