Individual Assignment. You are to write a one-page paper analyzing a current problem at work that can be used in the final paper for this class. The purpose of this paper is for you to utilize Step One of the SIX STEP DECISION MAKING MODEL and identify a problem for which you can use the material of this class to propose a solution for the FINAL PAPER using the rest of the steps of the Six Step Decision Making Model.
This First Assignment is just an Identification of a Problem. You will explain the Problem and the context of the problem in as much detail as possible. Define a problem at your office that you could eventually make recommendations to solve.
Think of something you want to fix that you work with every day. Make sure that the problem is one that you can quantitatively evaluate. Make sure that the problem is defined at the appropriate level, not too broad or overly specific not too detailed or overly strategic in nature.
The below examples are given for you to get thinking about your organization and options for you to make recommendations. Please do not use these examples, but consider them “grist” for you to get thinking:
Example 1: if you work in a small office with five copiers, you might want to consider ways to save money for your office by leasing equipment, reducing the number of copiers, or using a different supplier.
Example 2: Examine If your organization provides cars for some employees, is it better to lease, or to buy or to extend the life of the use of the cars, sell them later……..(to employees? What criteria would be used?)
Example 3: If your company provides cells phones to employees, what are the decisions that need to be made to provide employees cell phones? Is it better for companies to come up with a plan for employees through one company, or reimburse employees for cell phones for their own cell phone plans?
