According to Dr. Seth E. Davis, the communicative practice of throwing “shade” has functioned as a tool for Black and Brown queer, trans, and non-binary people to navigate White supremacy, homophobia, and transphobia. Yet, it has still been coopted by White popular culture figures and the media.
From your perspective, how might queer men, non-binary, and transwomen of color be able to reclaim this communicative practice and educate the public of its historical significance?
