Roles and Functions in Planning

  Some people always seem to manage by crisis. The following scenarios depict situations that likely could have been avoided with better planning and time management. Discuss what could have been done to prevent the following crisis's, and then outline at least three alternatives for each scenario to deal with the problem, as it already exists. 1. It is the end of your 8-hours shift. Your team members are ready to go home. You have not yet begun to chart on any of your six patients. Neither have you completed your intake/output totals or given medications that were due over an hour ago. The arriving shift is asking for your SBAR report. 2. Your computer crashes on the day your paper is due. 3. You have attempted to restart an IV for one hour, and after six attempts you still have not been successful. You are now running two hours late on medication administration and will not make your lunch break. You now must decide to take a late lunch or finish your shift on time. 4.
