As the next part of your reading post, answer the following questions with a high level of evidence and analysis: When the term “racism” was first coined in the 1930s, largely as a way to describe the Nazi expulsion (and later extermination) of Jews, in what ways did biological notions of race overlap and intermingle with cultural notions of race? Drawing on examples from Rattansi’s discussions in chapter 3 (20-44), when did the idea of race emerge and what varied forms did it take in what historians have often called the early modern period (c. 1500-1800 CE)?
