Please respond to one of the following prompts:
- Examine the image of the loss of Paradise, or the Fall, in Frost’s “Fire and Ice,” “The Oven Bird,” (not in our anthology; find it on-line) and “After Apple-picking.” You will first have to establish what the loss of Paradise or the Fall means.
- Read all of Langston Hughes’s poems in our text (p. 1036 and following). Taken together, how do his poems provide a critique and/or portrait of relations between blacks and whites in America in the mid 20th century? (You don’t have to use/cite all of the poems in your essay; it just helps to have read them all for a solid overview).
