Spain and the Christianization of America

Essential Question: How did the Spanish government use religion to further their efforts to colonize the Americas? Format: 5-7 pages, double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font; standard 1.25-inch margins Sources: You must analyze and reference at least one source from our syllabus (I will provide this) and at least two scholarly secondary sources you find on your own. You are welcome to use more than three sources, but all sources must be scholarly. Grading Criteria: 1. Argumentation (40 points): student offers a clear thesis that is argued consistently and effectively throughout the assignment 2. Evidence (30 points): student effectively integrates and analyzes evidence from appropriate primary and secondary source material 3. Structure and Writing (20 points): assignment has a coherent organization with introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. It is written in clear, concise prose. 4. Citations and Mechanics (10 points): essay uses proper citation format and follows assignment instructions regarding page numbers, length, and other mechanics.
