Sports Marketing and Communications
Imagine you are the Marketing Director for a Minor League Baseball team and complete the following:
Part I: Create a one page press release to promote 2021 Opening Day for the team. Make sure to include who, what, when, where, how and why. Consider adding information including but not limited to concession deals, pre-game ceremonies, post game events, ticket specials, community involvement, personalized quotes, giveaways, sponsors, etc.
The document you submit should be written as if it were going to be linked on the team website and distributed to the public. Your press release needs to include at least three parts: a title, body, and “about” section. Try to fit as much information as possible into one single-spaced page. Assume that the people reading the press release have no prior knowledge of your team and/or event. (Page 323 of the textbook gives a great example of a press release).
Part II: Based on the press release you have written, write a concise version of the same press release that you can post on social media. Remember almost all of this information has to be communicated in 240 characters or less.
