Statistics Analysis

Below are ten statements that describe ways to think or feel about yourself. Next to each statement, please write the scale number which reflects the extent to which you agree that each statement pertains to you, from 1 ("strongly agree") to 4 ("strongly disagree"). 1 2 3 4 Strongly Agree Agree Disagree Strongly Disagree 1____ 1. I feel that I'm a person of worth, at least on an equal plane with others. 4____ 2. All in all, I am inclined to feel that I am a failure. 1____ 3. I feel that I have a number of good qualities. 4____ 4. I feel I do not have much to be proud of. 3____ 5. I am able to do things as well as most other people. 4____ 6. I wish I could have more respect for myself. (I very much respect myself) 1____ 7. I take a positive attitude toward myself. 3____ 8. At times I think I am no good at all. 1___ 9. On the whole, I am satisfied with myself. 3____ 10. I certainly feel useless at times. Scoring instructions: Step 1: Recode the reverse-scored items Reversed items are: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 Change: 1 = 4, 2 = 3, 3 = 2, 4 = 1 Step 2: Compute the scale scores Add up the scores for all 10 items on each scale and divide by 10 (i.e., the number of items on the scale). This number, which is an arithmetic average, represents the self-esteem score. If your final score does not fall before 1 and 4, then your scoring is amiss somewhere. There are no hard and fast cut-off scores for this scale; as a general rule of thumb, however, scores above 3.5 represent “high” self-esteem; scores between 2.5 and 3.5 represent “moderate” self-esteem; and scores below 2.5 represent “low” self-esteem. That should give you an idea of where you are.
