Supply chain management
Add more supply chain strategies such as “Kan bun” or other appropriate concepts at the same time as the tutor would to use example from more than 1 company.I would like the writer to add more example from other companies in the same industry ( Toyota already use)
This is the asssignment question
Critically analyse practices in managing a global supply chain of manufacturing firms in one industry of your choice. Based on your analysis of the good practices, you are required to advise a real life company (Gripple Ltd) improve performance of their supply chainâ€
Which industry should I look at?
You should select examples of firms in the industry which you think it is similar to the industry which Gripple operating.
Manufacturing sector (e.g car) is more similar to Grippe business than retailing sector.
What does “Popular practice†mean /
Popular practice means many firms have the same practice. For example, offshoring in low labour cost countries is a popular practice in labour intensive industry like garment &textile industry. For example, Clarks, H&M, Primark, Next have outsourced production to Asian suppliers.
How many firms should I look at?
At least two firms, ideally more than two firms because it is obvious that example of one case is not enough to generalise the popularity.
What supply chain activities (issues/topics) needs to be included?
Throughout lectures, we have provided you with essential knowledge needed to manage (global) supply chain activities.
It is an assessment task at a post graduate level. You need to use your judgment of what supply chain issues you should cover in your assignment. The advice is that the supply chain issues/activities you would like to discuss in the assignment should be relevant to Gripple’s supply chain activities.
For example, if you want to evaluate Gripple’s production management practices and provide them a recommendation to improve such supply chain activities , you can look at how other companies in car industry such as Toyota or Honda or BMW manage their operation (e.g production strategy, or how to manage inventory with Kanban system or forecast demand, etc)
