Beginning with the origins of American intelligence efforts during the Revolutionary War, through the quiet period of the Monroe Doctrine, and on to the resurgence of intelligence operations from the Spanish-American War to the Cold War and into the future, this study will broadly outline the circumstances which led to the development of the intelligence community of today. This research will also concentrate on the evolution of the modem intelligence community from the end of World War II to the present examining how agencies like the Office of Strategic Services transformed intelligence operations forever.
