Scenario You are a member of a high-functioning team and want to apply for an open management position. Part of the interviewing process involves you reflecting on your own behavioral growth and development in order to demonstrate your commitment to relating to others while achieving personal and professional goals. To do this, you need to identify two different situations that indicate a focus/change needed to make others want to work with you as their manager. One situation needs to be a positive experience while the second is a negative experience. Instructions Create a presentation (i.e. PowerPoint, Visio, YouTube, Screen-cast-o-matic, Prezi, etc.) based on your self-awareness of your behaviors in the workplace and based on each situation you identified for self-awareness. Your presentation will need to include: Details or background on the two situations identified (positive and negative). For each situation, discuss what non-verbal cues were given or used. For each situation, explain what the outcomes were. For each situation, determine what tools could be used to make improvements (i.e. listening more, empathy, more information, etc.). Include speaker notes on each slide. 2Questions regarding the assignment in a separate paper   1) Which big questions about this competency remain for you? 2) How do you think this competency may connect to others in this course?

Non-verbal cues: I made eye contact with team members when they were speaking, and I nodded my head to show that I was listening. I also smiled and used other positive facial expressions. Outcomes: The team worked well together and we were able to successfully launch the product. We also built strong relationships with each other. Tools for improvement: I could have listened even more closely to team members' ideas and suggestions. I could have also asked more clarifying questions. Slide 4: Negative situation Background: I was working on a tight deadline and I was feeling stressed. I had to ask my team for help, but I was not very clear about what I needed. Non-verbal cues: I was speaking quickly and my tone of voice was sharp. I was also avoiding eye contact with my team members. Outcomes: My team members were confused and frustrated. They felt like I was not respecting their time or expertise. Tools for improvement: I could have taken a few minutes to collect my thoughts before talking to my team. I could have also been more specific about what I needed from them. I could have also apologized for my behavior. • Build relationships: When we adjust our behavior to be more respectful and empathetic, we can build stronger relationships with our colleagues and customers.

  1. Which big questions about this competency remain for you?
One big question I have about this competency is how to balance being assertive with being respectful of others. It can be difficult to be assertive without coming across as pushy or aggressive. I am also wondering how to adjust my behavior in different situations. For example, I may need to behave differently when I am talking to a customer than when I am talking to a colleague.
