you will write an essay driven by a motivating question that uses the film to arrive at new knowledge or understanding of a particular problem. Some problems proposed by the film that we have talked about in class include economical and racial inequality, America’s fears of outsiders or the “Other,” the duality of human nature, and the façade of American exceptionalism. Your essay should analyze scenes, symbols, and/or characters in the film and discuss what they reveal about the problem you have identified. Your essay should also utilize outside sources to support your argument (these can be interviews, scholarly articles, film reviews, etc.)
