Assessment task 2: DESCRIPTION
Individual 1500 word Assignment (20%) due in week 8. The topic area of this assignment is ‘Accounting for Sustainability’, and is introduced in class in week 6. The assignment is to be done individually, and must comply with the usual academic writing standards, including a properly structured report with Introduction and Conclusion, a discussion section which contains critical analysis and discussion of the specific assignment topic (below), and a bibliography containing relevant references that you have obtained in your own research for this assignment and used to support your discussion and analysis. Proper academic referencing is required, as with all university assignments plagiarism will be penalised in accordance with the University rules. You should use APA referencing formats.
The topic to be researched and discussed is:
In Lecture 1 of BX3172 you learned that Managerial Accounting focusses on information that supports decisions and has a future focus. In Lecture 6 we discussed Triple Bottom Line reporting, and its role in capturing a diverse portfolio of performances, including the familiar financial (economic) performances of business, with additional focus on performances in the social and environmental fields. To illustrate these triple performance areas, choose one of the companies from the Australian retail sector (like Woolworths, Wesfarmers) and discuss what you consider would be the twelve most helpful performance measures (four in each of the three areas of the TBL reporting framework), and comment on their relevance for future decision-making – both for the company you choose, and for the community in which they operate. Your overall conclusion in your report should summarise the key points arising from your discussion and conclude as to the relevance of TBL for the company, and for the community.
