Description
I have some examples of topics. I need to choose one of them and write a thesis statement and send to my professor for approval. The following are possible topics for a research paper:
- A biographical study of an important figure in the scope of this course. Examples include Thaddeus Stevens, W.E.B. DuBois, Marcus Garvey, Huey Long, Eleanor Roosevelt, Dr. Martin King, Jr., Malcom X, Angela Davis, Harvey Milk, or Ruth Bader Ginsburg. This should not be a simple summary of the person’s life, but instead an investigation of a particular aspect or message from their life and how it informs the history of the United States.
- A historical event or movement that shaped the formation of the United States of today. Examples include the Colfax Massacre (1873), Pullman Strike (1894), Tulsa Race Riot (1921), Bonus Army (1932), Stonewall Riots (1969), Siege of Wounded Knee (1973), or the Million Man March (1995).
- An analysis of a particular election or political organization and how it altered/or informed the structure of the United States. Examples include the Election of 1876, the Bull Moose Party, the Election of 1960, the Dixiecrats, the Democratic Convention of 1968, the Election of 1980, or the 1994 Midterm Election.
- An analysis of a particular court case or government act as a legal and/or historical event. Examples include Plessy v. Ferguson (1888), the Nineteenth Amendment (1920), the Social Security Act (1935), Brown v. Board of Education (1954), Voting Rights Act of 1965, Roe v. Wade (1973), or Bush v. Gore (2000).
