pieces to critique.
Choose a photographer and the photograph that will be the main topic of your

in the left column. (No duplicates please.) Your primary focus of your final
must be on the image posted in the Google Doc.

Step 3: Design It
You can have all of the information necessary and lose the viewer if your
design has readability or legibility issues, images that are low res, or

Step 4: Build it / 80 Points
Here is an outline for your Final. Please feel free to adapt to your own
needs as long as the important points are covered. YOU ARE FREE TO ADAPT TO
FIT YOUR NARRATIVE NEEDS.
Your midterm can be a PPT, Google slide, or Adobe Spark Video / Page (post
link.)
Slides 1-4 (please include 4 additional jpgs of artist work preferably
within the same portfolio.)
Full name of the photographer, dates lived and nationality.
Quotes by your chosen photographer that explain his/her beliefs, ways of
working, etc. AND/OR Quotes about your chosen photographer from critics,
curators, historians, etc. that explain his/her significance to the history
of photography.
Biographical information about the photographer which affected his/her
photography.
Other photographers that influenced/taught/mentored your chosen
photographer and/or other photographers who were influenced/taught/mentored
by your chosen photographer.
Slide 5: Post a high-resolution JPG of the photograph. Please use the image
from the google sheet or one within the same body of work. This will be the
image you are discussing in the later slides. Include the link to the source
of where you found this photograph and full caption: photograph's title,
date created, medium/process, any important technical information, and size
of the original print.

Slide 6: The genre of photography this photograph belongs to. For example:
Commercial portraiture, social documentary, photojournalism, etc. If the
genre is not accessible, you can cite the art movement, such as
Pictorialism.
Slide 7: Important cultural, social, and/or political events that were
happening at the time and place this photograph was made and how they might
be related to the photograph. What is the context for this image?
Slides 8-12: Using the resources in the Visual Literacy module, discuss how
Frame, Vantage Point, Detail, Lighting and Focus / Emphasis are important
for interpreting and evaluating this photograph.
Slides 13-17: Using the resources in the Visual Literacy module, choose 5
elements or principles to describe the composition.
Slide 18-19: What is the meaning of this photograph based on your research
about the photographer and the photograph. How well the image communicates
what you interpret, with the aid of research, to be its intended idea and
meaning.
