Find an example of whistleblowing in corrections (you can look in the textbook, articles, or legitimate news outlets). Provide a link when
appropriate. First, discuss the situation and outcome. Also, explain how and why the whistleblower(s) decided to speak out. What ethical system(s)
could be used to justify that decision? How can we change the culture to make it more supportive of whistleblowing? Finally, what other changes
would be necessary? Explain.
Part three: Halvorsen’s (2004) article explores whether it is better to let ten guilty persons go free than to convict one innocent person. Do you agree
with this statement? Why or why not? Please justify your response with an ethical system(s) and discuss how your response fits in with the goals of
punishment. Finally, please discuss whether you agree or disagree with Halvorsen’s stance. Be sure you are specific in discussing his take on this
issue (i.e., directly reference info from his argument).
