Part 2:
Interview a new mother (with a child up to 1 year old; please see Professor Sclafane if you
do not have someone to interview) about her experiences with breast and/or formula
feeding. Be sure to ask her about:
If she breastfed and for how long?
What struggles challenges she faced with either breastfeeding, formula feeding,
or both?
What could have been helpful and supportive to her in either bottle or
breastfeeding her child?
Part 3:
After reading “Why Breastfeeding is a Feminist Issue” and interviewing the new mother, write a
1,250 word essay covering the following:
What is the main point of the blog post?
Discuss your interview with a new mother. Be sure to write about all of the questions from
Part 2.
Discuss three reasons why women often have trouble breastfeeding and how this is
connected to misogyny and the structural limitations of American culture. Be sure to site at
least 3-5 outside sources (total for assignment) to support your argument and connection
to research and theory on breastfeeding.
