Youth Crime and Youth Justice
There are 3 different questions to choose from:
1) ‘The English legal system still prioritises punishment of children over their welfare. In this respect it has changed little since the 19th century’. Discuss.
2) How important was the Children and Young Persons’ Act 1933 in placing children on a different footing to adults in the criminal justice system?
3) Does the age of criminal responsibility show that the youth justice system places emphasis on justice over welfare? Can the two concepts be balanced when dealing with very young and/or very vulnerable children?
