Order Description
Assessment Information
This assignment is designed to assess learning outcomes:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the skills required for effective writing of letters and documents
2. Identify the essential elements of well written accurate, lucid documentation in a business environment.
3. Apply those skills practically to hypothetical scenarios.
This assignment is an individual assignment.
This assignment requires you to answer the followingtwo questions:
Task 1
Last week you visited a local restaurant with other members of your family. When you arrived you discovered that they had made no note of your booking. As a consequence, you had to wait 30 minutes before you could be seated at a suitable table. Although the restaurant was full and busy, it took a further 20 minutes for a waiter to take your order and a further hour before the food came. When the food did arrive it was of poor quality (when compared with the price being charged) and some of the dishes were barely warm. Indeed, when the main course arrived, one of the orders turned out to be wrong, and the person affected decided to take the wrong meal, because she did not want to wait any longer. When you pointed out all these occurrences to the waiter, he showed little interest and could only say that they were busy.
You are very upset with the whole experience and intend to write a letter of complaint to the manager of the restaurant, outlining your disappointment and how you feel about the matter.
Write a letter expressing your frustration at the poor level of service, highlighting the reasons why you are so dissatisfied. The name and address of the recipient of the letter is as follows: Michael Walsh, Manager, Mario’s, Inverness Road, Coventry, CV58 12XZ. (250 words)
Task 2
Your manager has asked you to write a guide for new employees of the company where you work, outlining a range of do’s and don’ts when you are writing an e-mailto: (i) another colleague, and (ii) someone who does not work for the company. You are also required, within the report, to outline how you should use social media, in light of your employment at the company.
You may create a fictitious company, but you should apply some of the advice given in class. (1,250 words)

GUIDELINES AND BACKGROUND TO THIS ASSIGNMENT
The University wants you to do your best. However we know that sometimes events happen which mean that you can’t submit your coursework by the deadline – these events should be beyond your control. If this happens, you can apply for an extension to your deadline for up to two weeks, or if you need longer, you can apply for a deferral, which takes you to the next assessment period (for example, to the resit period following the main Assessment Boards). You must apply before the deadline.
You will find information about the process and what is or is not considered to be an event beyond your control at https://share.coventry.ac.uk/students/Registry/Pages/Deferrals-and-Extension.aspx
Plagiarism
As part of your study you will be involved in carrying out research and using this when writing up your coursework. It is important that you correctly acknowledge someone else’s writing, thoughts or ideas and that you do not attempt to pass this off as your own work. Doing so is known as plagiarism. It is not acceptable to copy from another source without acknowledging that it is someone else’s writing or thinking. This includes using paraphrasing as well as direct quotations. You are expected to correctly cite and reference the works of others. The Centre for Academic Writing provides documents to help you get this right. If you are unsure, please visit www.coventry.ac.uk/caw. You can also check your understanding of academic conduct by completing the Good Academic Practice quiz available on Moodle.
Moodle includes a plagiarism detection system and assessors are experienced enough to recognise plagiarism when it occurs. Copying another student’s work, using previous work of your own or copyinglarge sections from a book or the internet are examples of plagiarism and carry serious consequences.
Return of Marked Work
You can expect to have marked work returned to youwithin 15 working days for level 1 and 2, and 10 working days for level 3 and M level. If for any reason there is a delay you will be kept informed. Marks and feedback will be provided online. As always, marks willr have been internally moderated only, and will therefore be provisional; your mark will be formally agreed later in the year once the external examiner has completed his / her review.
