I have studied many classes among the topic of child growth & development, so as I read through this week’s reading, many topics were very familiar. The theory that I tend to gravitate to the most, is the cognitive theory. Specifically Piaget’s Cognitive Development Theory. I have worked with children between the ages of 6 weeks old – 13 years old for the last 5 years… Working with infants & toddlers for a while really opened my eyes to the sensorimotor stage. It is an imperative point in a human beings life, to be full of sensory processing encounters with the world. Now, I work with 3 & 5 year olds, so I see a lot more of the preoperational stage throughout the day… The crazy thing about Piaget’s theory is that if you take a step back and look at each stage, it fits. Children really do go from one stage to the next based on their development opportunities. Respond to peers, explaining why you either agree or disagree with their choices of theories.
