Strengths
One of its strengths is easy access to the IT services. This is achieved through a wireless network and mobile support. Secondly, there was Introduction of a content management system enhancing web publishing. The system also allows its users to sign in at any time from any place. New interfaces were developed which were easier to use. Strong Customer satisfaction as they have access to several resources from the campus website and cloud. The university also has a robust and scalable infrastructure base which makes improvement to the IT systems much easier. Efficient research capability since the university made agreements with other universities to allow access to off campus research materials. Again, the university developed UCD Cloud compute to allow its users to access cloud resources, thus enhancing research.
The college deployed shared application standards and wireless network support making access of resources much easier. It also increased storage as the campus is procuring national data storage and cloud storage. Mobile support was introduced for easy access to learning activities and other campus information (IT Strategy Review, 2014).
Weaknesses
The university require development on E content and data management to enhance management of data. It also requires implementation of next stage DC infrastructure. Wider application base complexity makes it difficult to use the system.
Opportunities
Shared initiative for IT research to increase access to more information and also make information access easier (Eyden et al., 2011). Transition to cloud model and brokered services for greater agility. The system should be build on higher user satisfaction to broaden services and enable UCD initiatives. UCD online & public T&L delivery models will help attract more system users.
Threats
One of the threats is attrition of technical staff as the system users will have low dependence on them. Moreover, the research requirements for more advanced services need to be met to retain users. Under-investment in IT can lead to collapse of the IT system. Also, explosion in devices & internet of things has led to access risk exposure and greater wireless capacity requirements.
