PART 1: write a short essay by follow instruction below, this part should be half page long.
Briefly discuss how the function of planning impacts quality in the supply chain you are using for your final project (Walmart going to South Korean). Describe how ERP or MRP systems could be used to support the master production schedule and whether you would recommend the use of just-in-time strategies.
PART 2: respond 2 of my classmate’s post, each respond should be 3-4 sentence. I will also upload some of my classmate’s respond. You can take as a example.
In your response posts, provide feedback on your peers’ responses. Do you agree with their assessments? Why or why not? Provide any additional considerations you may have for planning at their organization/locations.
Classmate’s post 1:
Master planning scheduling is essential for every manufacturing industry. This because it enables the manufactures to create a plan of what is to be produced within a given range of time. The functions of a master production schedule in supply chain management include; translate the plans. This is whereby the level of operations balancing labor, market demand o the material and the equipment capabilities are being determined. Also, it provides an alternative schedule to be followed after proper evaluation (Ptak & Schragenheim, 2016). Furthermore, the MPS produces the capacity requirement and enhances processing of the information whenever product deliveries are to be made. Additionally, capacity utilization is greatly enhanced. This is due to the fact that, it determines the quantity of the material that can be loaded into the machine and the utilization requirement that increases the convenient flow of products within the industry.
Describe how enterprise resource planning and materials requirements planning systems support the master production schedule
The material requirement planning emanates from a master schedule, bill of the material and the inventory records file. For the bill of material to be produced, all raw materials are listed; the major components and the assemblies that are required to be implemented for manufacturing of a given product are also stated. Furthermore, the MRP works in ensuring that, each of the products that are necessary for production is made available and products to are also readily delivered to the consumers (Ptak & Schragenheim, 2016). Moreover, it enhances the successful planning of manufacturing, purchasing and delivering activities.
Discuss the pros and cons of lean strategies for supply chain planning
The pros of utilizing the lean strategies are that it saves on the cost of production. More of the cash flows within an organization is improved. Considering the fixed cost, much saving will be incurred from the longer plant life. Furthermore, lower energy and the labor requirement contributes to the variable cost saving. It also enhances the reliable delivery of products to the customers.
However, the lean strategies are also associated with cons which include; it consumes much time to manage, plan and to implement. This affects the normal production of the products, and this will also affect the profit that was to be incurred. Also, for implementation of the lean strategies, it calls upon the retraining of the staff to enhance adoption of mindset and work methods that are necessary (Goetsch & Davis, 2014). This, therefore, means much time and effort is required for the effective functioning of the strategies.
