“The Importance of policy for health”
Feedback Details: The grade awarded and feedback for this assessment will be supplied through Grade mark on vUWS. Students will be sent instructions on how to access their marked assessments. The student is expected to take note of the suggestions in order to improve in their second assignment.

Rationale
This assessment allows the students to show that they have integrated the learning about public health policy into their own experience.
Task
• Choose an existing health policy or create a new one which addresses an important health issue, excluding policies on seat belts, smoking or helmets
• Provide a brief description of your health policy e.g. policy title and purpose.
• Explain why this policy is important for health using evidence from the literature (with at least 4 references) (50%)
• Explain how this policy could be implemented. Include in your discussion the mechanisms required to ensure compliance with your policy e.g. how it might be enforced, encouraged through education etc.

Criteria

You will be assessed using the marking criteria –
• Do you state the question at the beginning and have you provided an introduction?
• Do you provide the policy title and explain the purpose of the policy?
• Have you stated what health issue is addressed by the policy?
• Have you provided evidence that shows how the policy addresses the health issue?
• Have you discussed how your policy could be put into practice and incorporating how you will ensure compliance to the policy?
• Do you make a conclusion?
• Health policy is named and the purpose of the policy is explained concisely and coherently.
• An insightful and coherent explanation is offered as to why this policy is important for health with nil inconsistencies.
• Extensive and reliable evidence is provided to support the explanation about the importance of this policy for health. 9+ references are provided.
• Implementation of the health policy is discussed, including the mechanisms required to ensure compliance. Suggestions are original, demonstrate insightful thinking and are supported with credible evidence.
• Clear structure incorporating an introduction and conclusion with signposting that successfully guides the reader through the essay.
• APA 6th Referencing Edition is used appropriately throughout the essay and the reference list.
