Identify key stakeholders and their roles in the decision-making process.
Define the specifications and standards your setting will require when selecting a new device. Use the criteria in the Handbook of Informatics for Nurses and Healthcare Professionals text (pages 158–163) that are pertinent to your device.
Develop a selection criteria checklist similar to the one on page 159 of the textbook.
Identify two competitors’ models.
Compare your devices based on the selection criteria in Box 8-2 of the Handbook of Informatics for Nurses and Healthcare Professionals text, page 163.
Address the legal and ethical issues related to this device.
Consider the life span of this device in terms of future technology changes or upgrades in the practice setting. For example, will the electronic medical record need to integrate with data from the device?
Consider how the device will affect patient-centric workflow. What are the chances it will interfere with current workflow? Will it improve workflow?
